Weblog

My lucky day

I am back. Do I need to say more? Yes, after 6 months I have finally managed to get my blog back online and I have a game plan how to improve my site over the next days and weeks. Today I also coincidentally got a nice present from Stash.

I was checking my mail and usually I delete a lot of newsletters if the subject and the first few lines do not interest me that much. Luckily I took a closer look at one of the mails, it was from Greg Robins from stash. And guess what I have won a SIXPACK of my choice, I went for number 3. This is really cool, all this for subscribing to their newsletter. If you’re interested you will find the link on their frontpage. Well if all newsletters would give away free stuff like stash from time then I guess I would read more of them in detail.

Anyhow this is a really nice present for my first day with my new blog. Speaking of my blog, I have made the switch to Wordpress. It is not that I did not like Serendipity, it is just that Wordpress has a bigger community and better documentation. Because my time to figure out how undocumented software works is sparse, I decided to make the switch.

Wordpress has a pretty impressive list of plugins that fit my need. First thing I installed is the neat Feedburner plugin which redirects all RSS readers to the Feedburner feed. Thanks to the Wordpress IRC channel on Freenode, you guys and gals really helped me get everything started within a few hours.

So here’s what I’ve planned for the next days and weeks. First I will set up all of the cool plugins that I want for my blog. I am planning for a multilanguage blog so that I can write in German too. Though I still need to figure out if I can use the Gengo plugin together with the Feedburner plugin and if it separates the feeds between the languages. If not I have to set up a second blog.

Also I definitely will not stick with the default Kubrick theme. I have already my own design as a HTML template. I just need to figure out how to create themes for Wordpress, which should not be to hard from what I can see from the documentation.

One last thing, if you got this through your feedreader, please change your feeds to my new feedburner URL http://feeds.feedburner.com/trm
I have piped the new feed into the old one to reach the ones that still use the old feed. It’s just a cosmetic thing, also the new URL is a lot shorter.

That is it from me so far. It is good to be back again and to be able to blog again. I really missed. Expect more from me soon.
